Asellus Strøm [H.] 1767:401 Masc. Asellus longus Strøm 1767. Type by monotypy. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Asellus G. St. Hilaire 1762 in Crustacea (not Plumier in Lacepède 1800 in fishes, not available). Also predates Asellus Minding 1832 (Gadidae) and Asellus Valenciennes 1838 (Moridae). Name apparently not in current literature and can be considered a nomen oblitum. Current status: Uncertain. Gadidae.
