Spelled Gryptes and Gristes in early literature. Type designated by Jordan & Gilbert 1877:88 [ref. 4907]. Type apparently misidentified (see Hubbs & Bailey). •Synonym of Micropterus Lacepède 1802 -- (Hubbs & Bailey 1940:13 [ref. 12253] as Grystes, Gilbert 1998:23 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Micropterus Lacepède 1802. Centrarchidae: Lepominae.
