Sorubim Agassiz [L.] in Spix & Agassiz 1829:24 Masc. Silurus lima Bloch & Schneider 1801. Type by subsequent designation (and monotypy). First appeared in synonymy in Spix and Agassiz as above, but made available back to that authorship and date because of use as a valid name by Bleeker 1862:10 [ref. 393]; Bleeker included one species lima and designated it type. Treated as masculine, Art. 30.2.4. Spelled Sorubium by Swainson 1838. •Valid as Sorubim Agassiz 1829 -- (Stewart 1986:668 [ref. 5211], Burgess 1989:282 [ref. 12860], Lundberg et al. 1991:842 [ref. 19175], de Pinna 1998:314 [ref. 23847], Britski et al. 1999:105 [ref. 24147], Littmann et al. 2000:901 [ref. 25063]). •See Kottelat 1988:80 who dates to Cuvier 1829. •Synonym of Sorubim Cuvier 1829 -- (Lundberg & Littmann in Reis et al. 2003:442 [ref. 27061], Littmann 2007:2 [ref. 29028] as Spix and Agassiz, Ferraris 2007:342 [ref. 29155] with authorship as Spix & Agassiz, Grant 2021:127 [ref. 38702]). Current status: Synonym of Sorubim Cuvier 1829. Pimelodidae.
