Genus dates to 1837:118 as above with no included species ("...und Ceratoptera N., deren Typus die von Lesueur beschriebene Cephalopter ist;..") Also in Müller & Henle 1838:91 [ref. 3066], "Cephaloptera, Nob. the type of which is the Cephaloptera described by Lesueur" [renamed lesueurii by Swainson 1839] Müller & Henle 1839:186 [ref. 3069]. First addition of species evidently by Bonaparte 1838:6 (of separate) [ref. 4979]. Misspelled Deratoptera by Krefft 1868:3 [ref. 5074] and by Whitley 1936:176 [ref. 6075]. Ceratoptera Day 1878 is not an original description. •Synonym of Mobula (Bancroft 1829) -- (Cappetta 1987:176 [ref. 6348]). •Synonym of Mobula Rafinesque 1810 -- (White et al. 2018:56 [ref. 37171]).
