Gobileptes (subgenus of Gobius) Swainson [W.] 1839:183 Masc. Gobius acutipennis Valenciennes 1837. Type by subsequent designation. As a subgenus of Gobius, without included species. Bleeker 1874:327 [ref. 437] designated a type for Apocryptes Valenciennes and included Gobileptes in synonymy; this has been regarded wrongly as type designation for Gobileptes. First addition of species dates to Jordan 1919:198 [ref. 2410], type as Gobius acutipinnis. See Murdy 1989:7 [ref. 13628].
