Cotylis Müller [J.] & Troschel [F. H.] in Müller 1843:297 Fem. Cotylis nuda Müller & Troschel 1843 (= Gobiesox punctulatus (Poey 1875)). Type by monotypy. Type not L. nudus Linnaeus (Briggs 1955:87 [ref. 637]). Müller & Troschel 1843:298 list the type as "Art: Cotylis nuda Müll. Trosch. (Cyclopterus nudus Bl. Schn.)" But Bloch & Schneider do not describe a species but refer to nudus Linnaeus. Using Article 67.13, the misapplication using Bloch & Schneider results in a new species, Cotylis nuda Müller & Troschel 1843. The locality given by Bloch & Schneider as India is in error according to Briggs, and the name is a synonym of the Caribbean Gobiesox punctulatus (Poey 1875). Since Müller & Troschel's name nuda has not been used, it can be regarded as a nomen oblitum. •Synonym of Gobiesox Lacepède 1800 -- (Briggs 1955:87 [ref. 637], Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:511 [ref. 27061]).
