Name dates to Jordan & Evermann 1896 as above (see Böhlke 1995:461 [ref. 21738]). •Valid as Lycodontis Jordan & Evermann 1896 -- (Blache et al. 1973:225 [ref. 7185], Ajiad & El-Absy 1986 [ref. 6758], Ataur Rahman 1989:42 [ref. 24860]). •Synonym of Gymnothorax Bloch 1795 -- (Böhlke et al. 1989:145 [ref. 13286] but as a valid subgenus on p. 155, Böhlke & Randall 2000:226 [ref. 24493]). •Valid with authorship as above (Böhlke 1995:461 [ref. 21738]). •Synonym of Gymnothorax Bloch 1795, with authorship as McClelland -- (Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:103 [ref. 24550], Smith 2012:10 [ref. 32155]).
