Two included species; earliest subsequent designation not researched. •Valid as Megaprotodon Guichenot 1848 -- (Maugé & Bauchot 1984:464 [ref. 6614]). •Synonym of Chaetodon Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subgenus Megaprotodon -- (Burgess 1978:415 [ref. 700], Blum 1989:14 [ref. 37553], Smith et al. 2003:304 [ref. 27125]). Current status: Synonym of Chaetodon Linnaeus 1758. Chaetodontidae: Chaetodontinae.
