Stethopterus (subgenus of Ophisurus) Bleeker [P.] 1852:24 Masc. Ophisurus vimineus Richardson 1845. Type by monotypy. Appeared on p. 24 as a subgroup of Ophisurus without included species; first addition of species not located; O. vimineus Richardson 1845 listed as type by Jordan 1919:252 [ref. 2410]. Leiuranus and Stethopterus appeared in same publication and are regarded as synonyms; Bleeker 1865:119 [ref. 409] apparently serves as first reviser selecting Leiuranus over Stethopterus. •Synonym of Leiuranus Bleeker 1852 -- (McCosker 1977:77 [ref. 6836]).
