Description in Bleeker 1860 [ref. 380], with one included species. Spelled Gonoproktopterys by Jordan 1923:141 [ref. 2421] and Gonoproctopterus by Bleeker 1863:199 [ref. 397] and 1863:27 [ref. 4859]. •Synonym of Hypselobarbus Bleeker 1860, but a valid subgenus Gonoproktopterus as described -- (Rainboth 1989:24 [ref. 13537]). •Valid as Gonoproktopterus Bleeker 1860 -- (see Rainboth 1986:11 [ref. 5849], Bănărescu 1997:22 [ref. 23274], Gopalakrishnan et al. 2004:686 [ref. 28696]). •Synonym of Hypselobarbus Bleeker 1860 -- (Knight 2013:208 [ref. 33021]).
