Platystethus Günther [A.] 1860:391 Masc. Cichla cultrata Bloch & Schneider 1801. Type by monotypy. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Platystethus Mannerheim 1831 in Coleoptera, replaced by Bathystethus Gill 1893. •Objective synonym of Bathystethus Gill 1893 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:567 [ref. 12442], Hoese & Bray 2006:1319 [ref. 29000], with type as Sciaena cultrata Forster 1801). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Bathystethus Gill 1893. Scorpididae.
