Type apparently designated first by Bleeker 1876:305 [ref. 448], not ornatissimus as given by Jordan 1919:297 [ref. 4904]. •Valid as Citharoedus Kaup 1860 -- (Maugé & Bauchot 1984:466 [ref. 6614]). •Synonym of Chaetodon Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subgenus Citharoedus -- (Burgess 1978:498 [ref. 700], Blum 1989:15 [ref. 37553] as Chitharoedus, Smith et al. 2003:305 [ref. 27125]). Current status: Synonym of Chaetodon Linnaeus 1758. Chaetodontidae: Chaetodontinae.
