Bleeker used membranaceus in combination with his new genus, so we treat the gender as masculine. •Valid within Synodontis sensu lato -- (Paugy in Lévêque et al. 1992:513 [ref. 21590]). •Valid as Hemisynodontis Bleeker 1862 -- (Poll 1971:32 [ref. 7700], Gosse 1986:114 [ref. 6194], Burgess 1989:195 [ref. 12860], Poll & Gosse 1995:203 [ref. 24781], Ferraris 2007:309 [ref. 29155]). •Synonym of Synodontis Cuvier 1816, but a valid subgenus Hemisynodontis -- (Dankwa et al. 1999:38 [ref. 28023]). •Synonym of Synodontis Cuvier 1816 -- (Willoughby 1994:25 [ref. 22047]).
