Grammatorcynus Gill [T. N.] 1862:125 Masc. Thynnus bilineatus Rüppell 1836. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Originally spelled Grammatorycnus, which was regarded as a misspelling and corrected to Grammatorcynus by authors [but perhaps incorrectly so based on Art. 32.3]; suffix apparently based on Orcynus of Cuvier, wrongly cited by Gill as Orycnus. We suggest maintaining current usage as Grammatorcynus; see Collette 2003:5 [ref. 27312]. •Valid as Grammatorcynus Gill 1862 -- (Collette 1983 [ref. 5220], Collette & Nauen 1983:38 [ref. 5375], Collette et al. 1984:600 [ref. 11421], Collette & Russo 1985 [ref. 5221], Nakamura in Masuda et al. 1984:224 [ref. 6441], Collette & Gillis 1992 [ref. 19794], Collette et al. 2001:7 [ref. 25629], Collette 2001:3723 [ref. 26305], Collette 2003:5 [ref. 27312], Bray et al. 2006:1771 [ref. 29091] as Grammatorcynus, Hata et al. 2011:67 [ref. 32401], Motomura et al. 2017:212 [ref. 35490], Golani & Fricke 2018:170 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:310 [ref. 36673]). Current status: Valid as Grammatorcynus Gill 1862. Scombridae: Scombrinae.
