Microgadus Gill [T. N.] 1865:69 Masc. Gadus proximus Girard 1854. Type by monotypy. Type regarded as by monotypy, a second species (not definitely included), Gadus tomcodus Mitchill "exhibits similar modifications of the cranium, and should be approximated to G. proximus." •Valid as Microgadus Gill 1865 -- (Fahay & Markle 1984:267 [ref. 13653], Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:57 [ref. 18936], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:288 [ref. 25968], Scharpf 2006:36 [ref. 30386], Pietsch & Orr 2015:27 [ref. 34694], Mecklenburg et al. 2016:40 [ref. 34440]). Current status: Valid as Microgadus Gill 1865. Gadidae.
