Type species preoccupied when in Etheostoma, species replaced by Etheostoma microperca Jordan & Gilbert. •Synonym of Etheostoma Rafinesque 1819, but a valid subgenus Microperca -- (Collette & Bănărescu 1977:1457 [ref. 5845], Burr 1978 [ref. 7035], Bailey & Etnier 1988:28 [ref. 6873]). •A valid clade name -- (Near et al. 2011:593 [ref. 31507]). Current status: Synonym of Etheostoma Rafinesque 1819. Percidae: Etheostomatinae.
