Parupeneus Bleeker [P.] 1863:234 [ref. 398]. Masc. Mullus barberinus Cuvier 1829 (= Mullus barberinus Lacepède 1801). Type by subsequent designation. On Official List (Opinion 846) but apparently with type wrongly as bifasciatus Lacepède in Buffon 1802 as designated by Jordan 1919:322 [ref. 4904]. Type designated by Bleeker 1876:334 [ref. 448] (ICZN did not use plenary powers to designate the type; see also Bauchot et al. 1985:4 [ref. 12595]). •Valid as Parupeneus Bleeker 1863 -- (Lachner 1960:6 [ref. 23973], Ben-Tuvia 1986:611 [ref. 5641], Ben-Tuvia & Kissil 1988:4 [ref. 12819] but with wrong type; Yamakawa in Masuda et al. 1984:164 [ref. 6441], Randall & Myers 1993 [ref. 21000], Kim & Amaoka 2001:45 [ref. 25244], Golani 2001:111 [ref. 25530], Randall 2001:3176 [ref. 26109], Kim 2002:63 [ref. 26347] with wrong type, Randall 2004:4 [ref. 28086] with wrong type, Hoese & Bray 2006:1266 [ref. 29000], Randall & King 2009:31 [ref. 30538], Randall & Heemstra 2009:37 [ref. 30542], Uiblein 2011:51 [ref. 31259], Bogorodsky et al. 2011:54 [ref. 31559]). Current status: Valid as Parupeneus Bleeker 1863. Mullidae.
