Not preoccupied by Malapterus Jarocki 1822 (an incorrect subsequent spelling of Malapterurus Lacepède 1803 and on Official Index). Hospilabrus Whitley is an unneeded replacement. Unjustifiably emended to Malacopterus by Günther 1862 [itself preoccupied by Audinet-Serville 1834 in Coleoptera]. •Valid as Malapterus Valenciennes 1839 -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:30 [ref. 24943], Kuiter 2010:226 [ref. 35285]). Current status: Valid as Malapterus Valenciennes 1839. Labridae.
