Synnema Haast [J. F. J. von] 1873:274 Neut. Uranoscopus monopterygius Schneider 1801. Type by monotypy. Haast states "... because he [Hutton] finds a filament in the mouth, so that the generic name Anema of Günther (without filament) would be quite inappropriate." Haast only removed this one species from Anema, so Synnema is not regarded as a replacement for Anema. •Synonym of Genyagnus Gill 1861 -- (Mees 1960:47 [ref. 11931], Pietsch 1989:296 [ref. 12541], Vilasri 2013:88 [ref. 33304]). Current status: Synonym of Genyagnus Gill 1861. Uranoscopidae.
