Also appeared in Bleeker 1876:314 [ref. 451] and 1876:Pl. 374 [ref. 6835] (earliest not established). Misspelled Gonoehaetodon in Zoological Record for 1876. •Synonym of Citharoedus Kaup 1860, but a valid subgenus Gonochaetodon as described -- (Maugé & Bauchot 1984:466 [ref. 6614]). •Synonym of Chaetodon Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subgenus Gonochaetodon as described -- (Burgess 1978:426 [ref. 700], Blum 1989:14 [ref. 37553], Smith et al. 2003:305 [ref. 27125]).
