Paracentropogon Bleeker [P.] 1876:5, 66 Masc. Apistus longispinis Cuvier 1829. Type by original designation. Type of Hypodytes Gistel 1848 was regarded as A. longispinis by Jordan 1919:235 [ref. 2410] such that Hypodytes is a senior objective synonym of Paracentropogon, but we interpret Gistel's Hypodytes to be a replacement of Apistus Cuvier 1829, with type Apistus alatus. Also appeared in Bleeker 1876 [ref. 450]. •Synonym of Hypodytes Gistel 1848 -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:160 [ref. 15964]). •Valid as Paracentropogon Bleeker 1876 -- (Washington et al. 1984:440 [ref. 13660], Paxton et al. 1989:446 [ref. 12442], Poss 1999:2297 [ref. 24796], Mandrytsa 2001:262 [ref. 25636], Allen et al. 2006:901 [ref. 29078], Prokofiev 2008:306 [ref. 29592], Kottelat 2013:315 [ref. 32989], Motomura et al. 2017:69 [ref. 35490], Chungthanawong & Motomura 2021:[2] [ref. 38168]).
