Prior to and senior synonym of Bathythrissa Günther, 1 Nov. 1877, Pterothrissus dating to 3 Sept. 1877 (see Goode & Bean 1896:51 [ref. 1848]). •Synonym of fossil genus Istieus Agassiz 1844 -- (Robins 1989:18 [ref. 13483]). •Valid as Pterothrissus Hilgendorf 1877 -- (Schwarzhans 1981:80 [ref. 3988] on fossil otoliths and in Pterothrissidae, Uyeno in Masuda et al. 1984:21 [ref. 6441], Smith 1986:157 [ref. 5712], Shinohara et al. 2011:39 [ref. 31715], Parin et al. 2014:46 [ref. 33547], Hidaka et al. 2016:[5] [ref. 34592]). Current status: Valid as Pterothrissus Hilgendorf 1877. Albulidae: Pterothrissinae.
