Type species unjustifiably emended by Jordan to Labrus pallidus Mitchill [not Lepomis pallida Rafinesque 1820]. Type species misidentified according to Hubbs 1935 [ref. 5593]; probably should be submitted to the ICZN. Originally type given as "Labrus pallidus Mitch. (=Pomotis incisor C. and V.);" incisor agrees with the original description according to Hubbs. •Synonym of Lepomis Rafinesque 1819 -- (Gilbert 1998:23 [ref. 23395]). Current status: Synonym of Lepomis Rafinesque 1819. Centrarchidae: Lepominae.
