Enneanectes Jordan [D. S.] & Evermann [B. W.] in Jordan 1895:501 Masc. Tripterygium carminale Jordan & Gilbert 1882. Type by monotypy. Correct spelling for genus of type species is Tripterygion. Brock 1940:34 [ref. 13593] designated as neotype for T. carminale the specimen illustrated by Jordan 1895:Pl. 53 [ref. 2394]. Schultz 1950:268 [ref. 42283] reported to have rediscovered a type specimen of T. carminale, and that the type species was misidentified. Rosenblatt 1960:4-5 [ref. 11946] accepted this, and suggested that Gillius sexmaculatus Fowler 1944 should be fixed as the type species. Smith & Williams 2002:7 [ref. 26427] demonstrated that the rediscovery report by Schultz 1950:268 was not tenable, thus they revalidated the neotype designation by Brock 1940:34; they also intended to invoke Art. 70.3.2 to designate as type T. carminale as fixed by the neotype by Brock 1940 (invalid action because Jordan & Evermann in Jordan 1895:501 and Pl. 53 [ref. 2394] used T. carminale in accord with the name-bearing type fixed by Brock 1940, and no misidentification was involved) (F. Welter-Schultes, pers. comm., July 2025). •Valid as Enneanectes Jordan & Evermann 1895 -- (Rosenblatt 1960:2 [ref. 11946], Greenfield & Johnson 1981:46 [ref. 5580], Fricke 1997:564 [ref. 23339], Smith & Williams 2002:8 [ref. 26427], Williams 2003:1749 [ref. 27109], Fricke 2009:36 [ref. 30394], Hastings 2009:102 [ref. 30397], Lin & Hastings 2013:3 [ref. 33286], Victor 2017:48 [ref. 35549], Victor 2019:1 [ref. 36450]). Current status: Valid as Enneanectes Jordan & Evermann 1895. Tripterygiidae: Tripterygiinae.
