Atopichthys Garman [S.] 1899:326 Masc. Atopichthys esunculus Garman 1899. Type by subsequent designation. Spelled Atopichthyes on p. 325 and once in list of figures. Regarded as an available genus-group name as a collective group. Type designated by Jordan 1920:486 [ref. 4905]. Used in the sense of a genus by Garman as a temporary catchall for unplaced larval eels, some now reassigned (see Raju 1985 [ref. 5287]). •Synonym of Albula Scopoli 1777 -- (Whitehead 1986:216 [ref. 5733], Kottelat 2013:35 [ref. 32989]). •See Mundy 2005:139 [ref. 28379].
