Xenentodon Regan [C. T.] 1911:332 Masc. Esox cancila Hamilton 1822. Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Jordan 1920:540 [ref. 4905]. Xenetodon has generally been considered to be monotypic, but Roberts 1989 [ref. 6439] presented evidence that there are at least two species, X. cancila and X. canciloides, in the genus. •Valid as Xenentodon Regan 1911 -- (Jayaram 1981:291 [ref. 6497], Collette et al. 1984:336 [ref. 11422], Kottelat 1989:16 [ref. 13605], Roberts 1989:152 [ref. 6439], see Kottelat 1998:109 [ref. 23436], Lovejoy & Collette 2001:327 [ref. 25232], Collette 2003:12 [ref. 27306], Ataur Rahman 2003:71 [ref. 31338], Kottelat 2013:298 [ref. 32989]).
