Chasmocranus Eigenmann [C. H.] 1912:131, 160 Masc. Chasmocranus longior Eigenmann 1912. Type by original designation. Appeared first as Chasmocephalus (name only) and species Chasmocephalus longior (name only, along with one additional name-only species) in Eigenmann 1910:384 [ref. 1224]. Chasmocranes is a misspelling. •Synonym of Heptapterus Bleeker 1858 -- (Mees 1974:177 [ref. 2969], but see Buckup 1988 [ref. 6635]). •Valid as Chasmocranus Eigenmann 1912 (de Pinna 1998:315, 316 [ref. 23847], Bockmann & Guazzelli in Reis et al. 2003:411 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:182 [ref. 29155], Bockmann & Castro 2010:692 [ref. 31072], Grant 2021:156 [ref. 38702]). Current status: Valid as Chasmocranus Eigenmann 1912. Heptapteridae: Heptapterinae.
