Trichopus Shaw [G.] 1803:392 Masc. Trichopus pallasii Shaw 1803 (= Labrus trichopterus Pallas 1770). Type by subsequent designation. Earliest designation of type found that of Jordan 1917:73 [ref. 2407]. Trichopus pallasii is an unneeded substitute for L. trichopterus; perhaps genus just an emendation of Trichopodus Lacepède (see Myers 1923:112 [ref. 12875]). •Synonym of Trichopodus Lacepède 1801 -- (Kottelat 2013:457 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Trichopodus Lacepède 1801. Osphronemidae: Trichogastrinae.
