Replacement for Cantharus Cuvier 1816, preoccupied by Cantharus Bolton 1798 and by Cantharus Montfort 1808. Earlier replaced by Spondyliosoma Cantor 1849 and by Cantharusa Strand 1926. •Objective synonym of Spondyliosoma Cantor 1849 -- (Tortonese 1973:414 [ref. 7192], Parenti 2019:56 [ref. 36892]). Current status: Synonym of Spondyliosoma Cantor 1849. Sparidae.
