Maenoides Richardson [J.] 1843:8 Masc. Maenoides aurofrenatus Richardson 1843. Type by subsequent designation. Apparently not intended as a new genus and perhaps used as a vernacular (though latinized); Bleeker states, "I am unable...to assign this fish to a genus ... , and have not therefore attempted it." Type designated by Jordan 1923:197 [ref. 2421] but genus spelled Maenioides. •Synonym of Pentapodus Quoy & Gaimard 1824 -- (Russell 1990:78 [ref. 19228]). Current status: Synonym of Pentapodus Quoy & Gaimard 1824. Nemipteridae.
