Paracanthopoma Giltay [L.] 1935:1 Fem. Paracanthopoma parva Giltay 1935. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Clearly named for its close appearance to Acanthopoma, which is of neuter gender (poma is a neuter noun in Greek). But the gender has always been treated as feminine, so in the interest of stability, it is probably best to continue to treat the gender as feminine. •Valid as Paracanthopoma Giltay 1935 -- (Burgess 1989:324 [ref. 12860], de Pinna 1989:35 [ref. 12630], Schmidt 1993:185 [ref. 22299], de Pinna & Wosiacki in Reis et al. 2003:276 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:410 [ref. 29155], Dagosta & de Pinna 2021:1 [ref. 38286], Henschel et al. 2021:1 [ref. 38711], Henschel et al. 2021:1 [ref. 38806], de Pinna & Dagosta 2022:8 [ref. 39792], Henschel et al. 2024:29 [ref. 41248], Henschel et al. 2026:542 [ref. 42960]). Current status: Valid as Paracanthopoma Giltay 1935. Trichomycteridae: Vandelliinae.
