Diagramma Oken [L.] (ex Cuvier) 1817:1182 Neut. Anthias diagramma Bloch 1792. Type by monotypy or by tautonymy. Based on "Les Diagrammes" Cuvier 1816 (see Gill 1903:966 [ref. 5768]). Subsequent addition of species after latinization not researched. The genus Diagramma is apparently neuter (based on Greek meaning drawing, outline or diagram); however Gramma and other fish genera ending in -gramma are feminine (based on the Greek word for line). •Synonym of Plectorhinchus Lacepède 1801 -- (Roux 1973:394 [ref. 7200], Roux 1986:327 [ref. 6209]). •Valid as Diagramma Oken 1817 -- (Johnson 1980:12 [ref. 13553], Smith & McKay 1986:565 [ref. 5716], Johnson et al. 2001:657 [ref. 25576], McKay 2001:2962 [ref. 26103], Allen et al. 2006:1219 [ref. 29090], Motomura et al. 2017:142 [ref. 35490], Golani & Fricke 2018:96 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:162 [ref. 36673], Parenti 2019:174 [ref. 37021]).
