Type by original designation (also monotypic). Type species given as Burgess and Randall and described as new on Burgess p. 218; species also described in 1975 by Randall alone as multispinosus. •Synonym of Hemitaurichthys Bleeker 1876, but a valid subgenus Acanthotaurichthys as described -- (Maugé & Bauchot 1984:462 [ref. 6614]). •Synonym of Hemitaurichthys Bleeker 1876 based on placement of type species -- (Smith et al. 2003:305 [ref. 27125]).
