Type by original designation. •Synonym of Apogon Lacepède 1801, but a valid subgenus Pristicon as described -- (Fraser & Lachner 1985:4 [ref. 5215], Mabuchi et al. 2006:95 [ref. 28550]). •Valid as Pristicon Fraser 1972 -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:407 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:201 [ref. 33426], Mabuchi et al. 2015:45 [ref. 34429] tribe Pristiapogonini, Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:135 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Pristicon Fraser 1972. Apogonidae: Apogoninae.
