Type by original designation. •Synonym of Apogon Lacepède 1801, but a valid subgenus Zapogon as described -- (Fraser & Lachner 1985:4 [ref. 5215]). •Valid as Zapogon Fraser 1972 -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:417 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:198 [ref. 33426], Mabuchi et al. 2015:42 [ref. 34429] tribe Apogonini, Golani & Fricke 2018:79 [ref. 36273], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:40 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Zapogon Fraser 1972. Apogonidae: Apogoninae.
