Type clearly designated originally as above on both pages 151 and 159, but in subsequent articles workers wrongly list Raja spinacidermis Barnard 1923 as type. •Synonym of Raja Linnaeus 1758, but a valid subgenus Malacoraja as described -- (Stehmann 1973:65 [ref. 7168]). •Valid as Malacoraja Stehmann 1970 -- (Stehmann 1978:89 [ref. 6982] and McEachran 1984:55 [ref. 5225] but with spinacidermis as type, Stehmann 1995:28 [ref. 22055], McEachran & Dunn 1998:278 [ref. 23312], Compagno 1999:491 [ref. 25589], Last & Yearsley 2002:1629 [ref. 26568], McEachran & Carvalho 2003:537 [ref. 26985], de Carvalho et al. 2005:241[ref. 28271], Ishihara et al. 2012:19 [ref. 31844], Dyldin 2015:71 [ref. 34524], Last et al. 2016:206 [ref. 35000], Ebert et al. 2021:82 [ref. 38234]).
