Sander Oken [L.] (ex Cuvier) 1817:1182 =1782 Masc. Perca lucioperca of Bloch 1783 (= Perca lucioperca Linnaeus 1758). Type by monotypy. Based on "Les Sandres" of Cuvier 1816:294 [ref. 993] (see Gill 1903:966 [ref. 5768]). Cuvier gave the species as Perca Lucio perca Bl., but this is a typo for Perca lucioperca, not a trinomen but the way some species were presented in early literature. See comments on validity by Collette 1963:616 [ref. 6459] and Bruner 2021:[3] [ref. 38241] who consider Sander an Austrian or Latvian vernacular name; however, it is evidently a Latinization of the French vernacular name 'Les Sandres' according to Oken's typesetting (see Scharpf & Fricke 2021:2 [ref. 38735]). •Synonym of Stizostedion Rafinesque 1820 -- (Bruner 2021:[3] [ref. 38241]). •Valid as Sander Oken 1817 -- (Bogutskaya & Naseka 1996:54 [ref. 22798], Kottelat 1997:173 [ref. 22952], Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004:206 [ref. 28183], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:526 [ref. 29996], Scharpf 2008:40 [ref. 30399], Minckley & Marsh 2009:307 [ref. 31114], Smith et al. 2011:5 [ref. 31508], Parin et al. 2014:356 [ref. 33547], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:895 [ref. 34062], Esmaeili et al. 2017:95 [ref. 35254], Esmaeili et al. 2018:77 [ref. 36089], Scharpf & Fricke 2021:2 [ref. 38735]). Current status: Valid as Sander Oken 1817. Percidae: Luciopercinae.
