Plus additional non-type material. •Valid as Catoprion absconditus Mateussi, Melo & Oliveira 2020 -- (Silvano et al. 2020:154 [ref. 38133], Taphorn et al. 2022:27 [ref. 41297], Ota et al. 2024:404 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Catoprion absconditus Mateussi, Melo & Oliveira 2020. Serrasalmidae: Serrasalminae. Distribution: South America: central and eastern Amazon and Essequibo River basins (Brazil and Guyana). Habitat: freshwater. macropterus, Mylesinus Ulrey [A. B.] 1894:612 [American Naturalist v. 28 (no. 331); ref. 12356] Brazil. Holotype (unique): CUMV 3267. Species was originally described on a single specimen as above, later described as new based on two specimens in Ulrey 1895:296 [ref. 12371]. •Synonym of Catoprion mento (Cuvier 1819) -- (Jégu in Reis et al. 2003:183 [ref. 27061], Mateussi et al. 2020:9 [ref. 37676], Ota et al. 2024:405 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Synonym of Catoprion mento (Cuvier 1819). Serrasalmidae: Serrasalminae.
