Current status: Synonym of Cristacirrhitus punctatus (Cuvier 1829). Cirrhitidae. Habitat: marine. punctatus, Cirrhitus Cuvier [G.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829:70 [Histoire naturelle des poissons v. 3; ref. 4879] Madagascar. Lectotype: MNHN 0000-2772. Paralectotypes: MNHN A-5449 (1, dry) Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1989:12 [ref. 15502], Fricke et al. 2018:248 [ref. 35805].
