L.] 1861:24 [Mémoire sur les poissons de l'Afrique australe; ref. 767] Table Bay, Cape town, South Africa, southeastern Atlantic. Holotype (unique): MZULG (on display). Type catalog: Bauchot & Daget 1972:66 [ref. 20898]. Possibly appeared by mistake as Chrysophrys acutus in early literature, and was wrongly listed in the Catalog of Fishes 1998:39. •Valid as Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:585 [ref. 5710], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:222 [ref. 28072], Parenti 2019:78 [ref. 36892], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:298 [ref. 39785]). Current status: Valid as Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861). Sparidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: brackish, marine. nigripinnis, Pagrus Boulenger [G. A.] 1903:67, Pl. 7 [Annals of the South African Museum v. 3 (pt 3); ref. 15011] KwaZulu-Natal coast, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1903.2.6.6. •Synonym of Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:585 [ref. 5710], Parenti 2019:78 [ref. 36892], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:298 [ref. 39785]). Current status: Synonym of Cymatoceps nasutus (Castelnau 1861). Sparidae. Habitat: brackish, marine. |
