Neotype: MZUSP 6539. As Cynodon gibbus on plate; first reviser not researched. Neotype designated by Toledo-Piza 2000:63 [ref. 24268]. Distribution: South America: Amazon and Orinoco River basins, and coastal rivers of Guyana and northern Brazil (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela). IUCN (2023): Least Concern. Habitat: freshwater.

Current status: Valid as Cynodon meionactis Géry, Le Bail & Keith 1999. Cynodontidae. Distribution: South America: coastal rivers in French Guiana and Suriname. Habitat: freshwater.

Holotype: MZUSP 32590. Paratypes: CAS 204164 (1), INPA 14531 (2), MCP 21735 (2), MNRJ 18171 (2), MZUSP 53306 (9), USNM 352434 (2). Plus non-type material. •Valid as Cynodon septenarius Toledo-Piza 2000 -- (Toledo-Piza in Reis et al. 2003:234 [ref. 27061], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:36 [ref. 35633], Taphorn et al. 2022:23 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Cynodon septenarius Toledo-Piza 2000. Cynodontidae. Distribution: South America: upper Orinoco River basins and rivers of Guyana (Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
