Current status: Synonym of Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822). Lobotidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

campbelli, Datnioides Whitley [G. P.] 1939:273 [Records of the Australian Museum v. 20 (no. 4); ref. 4698] Fly River [not upper Sepik River], Papua New Guinea. Holotype (unique): AMS IA.7288. •Valid as Coius campbelli (Whitley 1939) -- (Roberts & Kottelat 1994:258 [ref. 21569] with range as Gulf of Papua drainages and coastal waters of New Guinea, Carpenter 2001:2945 [ref. 26101]). •Synonym of Datnioides quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) -- (Allen 1991:138 [ref. 21090] [but see quadrifasciatus]). •Valid as Datnioides campbelli Whitley 1939 -- (Allen et al. 2008:119 [ref. 30265]). Current status: Valid as Datnioides campbelli Whitley 1939. Lobotidae. Distribution: South-central New Guinea (Papua Province, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

hexazona, Lobotes Bleeker [P.] 1850:9 [Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië v. 1 (no. 1); ref. 16884] Bandjarmasin, Borneo, Indonesia. See Kottelat 2000:92 [ref. 25865]. •Treated as a synonym of Datnioides quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) by Roberts 1989:165 [ref. 6439] and of Coius quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) Roberts & Kottelat 1994:259 [ref. 21569], but quadrifasciatus is not available and hexazona would be a synonym of Coius polota Hamilton 1822 following Robert's & Kottelat's 1994 synonymy. •Synonym of Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822) -- (Kottelat 2013:344 [ref. 32989]). Current status: Synonym of Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822). Lobotidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

Hamilton's original illustration reproduced by Britz 2019:Pl. 55 [ref. 37532]. Treated as a synonym of Datnioides quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) or Coius quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809), but quadrifasciatus is apparently not available and polota would be valid as Coius polota. •Synonym of Datnioides quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) -- (Roberts 1989:165 [ref. 6439]). •Synonym of Coius quadrifasciatus (Sevastianov 1809) -- (Roberts & Kottelat 1994:258 [ref. 21569], Ataur Rahman 2003:351 [ref. 31338]). •Valid as Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822) -- (Ataur Rahman 1989:325 [ref. 24860] as Datnoides). •Valid as Datnioides polata (Hamilton1822) -- (Allen et al. 2008:119 [ref. 30265], Kottelat 2013:344 [ref. 32989], Sulaiman et al. 2018:45 [ref. 35802], Suresh et al. 2018:232 [ref. 36495], Ng et al. 2019:538 [ref. 36606], Taki et al. 2021:364 [ref. 39830]). Paratypes: CMK 13120 (2); MHNG 2594.51 (2); MNHN A-0333 (1), 2076 (2), 1927-0183 tp 0185 (3), 1940-0063 (1), 1967-4083 (2), 1967-0484 (27). •Valid as Datnioides pulcher (Kottelat 1998) -- (Freyhof et al. 2000:97 [ref. 25184] as Datnoides, Kottelat 2001:150 [ref. 25780], Kottelat 2013:344 [ref. 32989], Gill & Leis 2019:4 [ref. 36999], Taki et al. 2021:365 [ref. 39830]). Current status: Valid as Datnioides pulcher (Kottelat 1998). Lobotidae. Distribution: Southeast Asia: Chao Phraya and Mekong River basins, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Habitat: freshwater.

Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Chaetodon quadrifasciatus Bloch & Schneider 1801; not replaced. •Incorrectly treated as valid -- (Roberts 1978:55 [ref. 8886] in genus Datnioides, Roberts 1989:165 [ref. 6439], Allen 1991:138 [ref. 21090], Talwar & Jhingran 1991:837 [ref. 20764], Kottelat et al. 1993:114 [ref. 23448], Roberts & Kottelat 1994:259 [ref. 21569], Kottelat & Lim 1996:246 [ref. 23210], Rainboth 1996:186 [ref. 22772], Carpenter 2001:2945 [ref. 26101] with author as Sevastianof, Ataur Rahman 2003:351 [ref. 31338], Parenti & Lim 2005:193 [ref. 28285] with author as Sevestianof). •The valid species would be Coius polota Hamilton 1822, from Roberts' and Kottelat's 1994 synonymy, and Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822) based on Kottelat 2000:92 [ref. 25865]. •Synonym of Datnioides polata (Hamilton 1822) -- (Allen et al. 2008:119 [ref. 30265], Kottelat 2013:344 [ref. 32989]) 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Datnioides polota (Hamilton 1822). Lobotidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

Paratypes: CAS 79007 (1), CMK 5097 (3), USNM 325065 (1), ZMA 120863 (1). •Valid as Coius undecimradiatus Roberts & Kottelat 1994 -- (Kottelat 1998:112 [ref. 23436], Carpenter 2001:2942 [ref. 26101]). •Valid as Datnioides undecimradiatus (Roberts and Kottelat 1994) -- (Kottelat 2001:150 [ref. 25780], Kottelat 2013:344 [ref. 32989], Kottelat 2015:48 [ref. 33971], Taki et al. 2021:365 [ref. 39830]). Current status: Valid as Datnioides undecimradiatus (Roberts & Kottelat 1994). Lobotidae. Distribution: Southeast Asia: Mekong River basin, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Habitat: freshwater.
