Holotype: ZSI F13514/1. Paratypes: ZSI F13515/1 (7, not found) Type catalog: Menon & Yazdani 1968:106 [ref. 20743] as ophiocephalus. The specific name must be treated as a noun in apposition (ICZN Art. 31.2.2), •Valid as Barbus ophicephalus Raj 1941 -- (Talwar & Jhingran 1991:277 [ref. 20764], Zacharias et al. 1996:39 [ref. 25526] as ophiocephalus). •Valid as Puntius ophicephalus (Raj 1941) -- (Raju Thomas et al. 2002:50 [ref. 26359], Arunachalam et al. 2004:166 [ref. 27864]). •Valid as Eechathalakenda ophicephalus (Raj 1941) -- (Zacharias et al. 1996:40 [ref. 25526] as Echathalakanda ophiocephalus, Menon 1999:83 [ref. 24904] as ophicephala, Pethiyagoda et al. 2012:82 [ref. 32071], Arunkumar & Manimekalan 2018:1739 [ref. 36172], Bleher 2018:458 [ref. 36647], Chandra et al. 2026:6 [ref. 43125] as ophicephala).
