G.] 2005:2, Figs. 1, 2B [Notulae Naturae (Philadelphia) No. 479; ref. 29334] 114 nautical miles from sea buoy, in Boca Grande navigation channel, 8°36'N, 61°45'W, Río Orinoco, Delta Amacuro State, Venezuela. Holotype: MBUCV-V-32800. Paratypes: ANSP 180964 (4), FMNH 117081 (1), USNM 384385 (1). Plus non-type material. Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[26] [ref. 35236]. Appeared originally as bogardusi, but named for Mrs. Joan Bogardus Spears, the correct species epithet would be bogardusae, not to be corrected according to the ICZN. •Valid as Gymnorhamphichthys bogardusi Lundberg 2005 -- (Carvalho et al. 2011:400 [ref. 31553], Ferraris et al. 2017:[26] [ref. 35236] as bogardusae, Lasso et al. in Lasso & Morales-Betancourt 2022:92 [ref. 40783], Taphorn et al. 2022:40 [ref. 41297]). Current status: Valid as Gymnorhamphichthys bogardusi Lundberg 2005. Rhamphichthyidae. Distribution: South America: mainstream of Orinoco River and its tributaries draining the Venezuelan llanos (Guyana and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater. britskii, Gymnorhamphichthys Carvalho [T. Current status: Valid as Gymnorhamphichthys britskii Carvalho, Ramos & Albert 2011. Rhamphichthyidae. Distribution: South America: Rio de La Plata system (Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay).
