Holotype (unique): MCZ 28479. •Valid as Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899 -- (Markle & Quéro in Whitehead et al. 1984:255 [ref. 13675], Machida & Shiogaki 1988:5 [ref. 6622], Matarese et al. 1989:76 [ref. 26885] as agassizi, Markle & Sazonov 1990:244 [ref. 14215], Sazonov et al. 1993:43 [ref. 21498], Sazonov & Markle 1999:1893 [ref. 24739], Sazonov & Williams 2001:S6 [ref. 26712], Love et al. 2005:31 [ref. 37547], Williams & Stewart 2015:368 [ref. 34243], Fricke et al. 2018:64 [ref. 35805], Carneiro et al. 2019:77 [ref. 37250], Love et al. 2021:49 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:62 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:154 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899. Alepocephalidae. Distribution: Circumglobal in tropical and temperate seas; in eastern Pacific from Oregon (U.S.A.) south to Chile. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): MOM 0091-1342. Type catalog: Belloc 1949:6 [ref. 21544]. Also in Roule & Angel 1933:8, Pl. 1 (fig. 3) [ref. 3827]. •Valid as Leptochioichthys macrops Roule & Angel 1931 -- (Krefft 1973:90 [ref. 7166]). •Synonym of Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899 -- (Markle & Quéro in Whitehead et al. 1984:254 [ref. 13675], Markle & Sazonov 1990:244 [ref. 14215]). Current status: Synonym of Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899. Alepocephalidae. Habitat: marine.

Holotype (unique): BSKU 43810. •Valid as Leptochilichthys microlepis Machida & Shiogaki 1988 -- (Sazonov et al. 1993:57 [ref. 21498], Nakabo 2000:294 [ref. 25086], Hutchins 2001:19 [ref. 25847], Nakabo 2002:294 [ref. 26001], Sazonov & Williams 2001:S6 [ref. 26712], Hoese et al. 2006:389 [ref. 29035]). Current status: Valid as Leptochilichthys microlepis Machida & Shiogaki 1988. Alepocephalidae. Distribution: Western North Pacific and off western Australia [probably Indo-Pacific]. Habitat: marine.

pinguis, Anomalopterus Vaillant [L. L.] 1886:1239 [Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Séances de l'Académie des Sciences v. 103; ref. 4494] Off Cape Blanc [Blanco], Morocco, depth 1400 meters. Holotype (unique): MNHN 1885-0168. Type catalog: Bertin 1940:276 [ref. 293]. Also appeared as new with illustrations and further description in Vaillant 1888:160, Pl. 11 (figs. 4-4a) [ref. 4496]. •Valid as Leptochilichthys pinguis (Vaillant 1886) -- (Markle & Quéro in Whitehead et al. 1984:255 [ref. 13675], Markle 1986:226 [ref. 5687], Machida & Shiogaki 1988:5 [ref. 6622], Markle & Sazonov 1990:244 [ref. 14215], Fricke 1999:86 [ref. 24106], Sazonov & Markle 1999:1893 [ref. 24739], Sazonov & Williams 2001:S6 [ref. 26712], Hoese et al. 2006:389 [ref. 29035], Carneiro et al. 2019:77 [ref. 37250], Fermon et al. 2022:131 [ref. 39448] possible).
