Apparently preoccupied by Loricaria punctata Kner 1854, but treated as valid as Limatulichthys punctatus by Isbrücker 1981:89 [ref. 5522], by Ortega & Vari 1986:17 [ref. 9708], and by Burgess 1989:444 [ref. 12860]. Kner's punctata was first published in synonymy, but was validated before 1961, so it is available from Kner 1854. The next available name is for Regan's species is Loricaria griseus Eigenmann 1909 according to Isbrücker 1980:124 [ref. 2303].
