Current status: Valid as Mephisto albomaculosus Matsuura, Psomadakis & Tun 2018. Triacanthodidae. Distribution: Northeastern Indian Ocean: Bay of Bengal (India) east to Myanmar. Habitat: marine.

Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:162 [ref. 13621]. •Valid as Mephisto fraserbrunneri Tyler 1966 -- (Tyler 1968:134 [ref. 6438], Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S123 [ref. 27377], Matsuura 2014:4 [ref. 33576], Matsuura et al. 2018:[3] [ref. 35960], Bemis et al. 2020:90 [ref. 37603], Psomadakis et al. 2020:603 [ref. 37272], Matsuura 2022:410 [ref. 40250], Devi et al. 2023:450 [ref. 40401] as Mephistofraser brunneri). Current status: Valid as Mephisto fraserbrunneri Tyler 1966. Triacanthodidae. Distribution: Northern Indian Ocean: Somalia east to Myanmar. Habitat: marine.
