Based on the style in Lacepède p. 622 this name is Latinized and predates Mormyrus hasselquistii Valenciennes 1847 as used in the current literature; current usage would suggest continuing to retain authorship as Valenciennes 1847. Both names were based on Geoffroy St. Hilaire and caschive of Hasselquist 1757:398 [ref. 30181], the latter a rejected work (ICZN Opinion 57), but hasselquistii also involved specimens and can stand on its own. •Synonym of Mormyrus caschive Linnaeus 1758.
