Holotype: ANSP 138478 [ex FSBC 3060]. Paratypes: (108) Deposited at AMNH, ANSP, CAS, SIO, UF, UMMZ, USNM. •Valid as Opistognathus robinsi Smith-Vaniz 1997 -- (Smith-Vaniz 2003:1378 [ref. 27083], Nelson et al. 2004:130 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:209 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:134 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:159 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:384 [ref. 41622], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2025:suppl. Tab. 1, p. 29 [ref. 42574]). Current status: Valid as Opistognathus robinsi Smith-Vaniz 1997. Opistognathidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: North carolina south to Florida (U.S.A.) and northern Bahamas, including Gulf of Mexico (U.S.A., Mexico). IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
