Proposed independently of Mugil smithii Günther 1861. Castelnau's name is based on Mugil capensis of Smith 1846, not capensis Valenciennes 1836. This names is in competition with Günther's smithii published on 14 Dec. 1861, date for Castelnau unknown to us.
